I just returned to Kauai after being away for several months in Europe; a necessary trip as my daughter was having a baby over there. But oh, oh, oh, how glad I am to be back home on magical Kauai!
The Beaches
So many gorgeous beaches! North shore has 21, but the whole island has simply beautiful beaches where you can stretch out in the sun, swim, snorkel, surf and more! The Aquarmine water! The white sand, the colorful fish, the variety of shells, the views and the sound of the ocean.
Magical Kauai
I can breathe again! The warm wind on my face, the scent of the plumerias, the smell of the salty air by the bay…… the tropical green everywhere you look! Kauai is magical, there’s no mistake about it.
This coming January 2020 I will have lived here for 19 years… the longest time I have ever lived anywhere. So just what is so magical about Kauai?
Oh sigh. The way that it rains overnight or at 6am and the whole place feels so fresh! Then the sun comes out and the light dapples through the trees and leaves and it’s as though you might see a fairy or sprite at every turn. The ferns in the jungle or just along the way have been used for eons to adorn the Hula dancers… the “lei” or circle around their heads, their hands, their feet. The Ti leaves held so sacred by the ancient Hawaiians, also used in leis of all descriptions. The Plumeria that make so many leis to welcome visitors to Kauai’s shores. The Pua Keni Keni that have the scent of heaven about them. The magestic crown gingers or red gingers that dot the landscape. You can read more about Kauai’s embracing Exotic flowers here No wonder I’m glad to be back home on Magical Kauai.
Beauty Everywhere
That’s it! Everywhere you look, there’s stunning beauty! Being back home on kauai means I’m surrounded by beauty…. and I’m afraid that’s lacking in so many places.
Waking up again to the sound of the birds singing in the new day…. looking out at the ocean and just knowing it’s always there. The tide coming and going, the wave crashing to shore on some beaches and gently lapping on others. The azure blue of the ocean, the sight of the local fishermen walking the reefs with their nets or spear fishing close to shore.
Not needing to wear many clothes! Oh that’s a big one! Going barefoot most of the time….. wearing simple dresses or sarongs and feeling the warmth of the sun on my skin… so healthy, so comforting, it feels so good to be back home on magical Kauai!
The food! The Avos! The Apple Bananas! The fresh limes and lemons, the starfruit, all the fresh salad ingredients, the frosties, the smoothies, oh you get the picture! Fresh Bite down in Hanalei! Kauai Juice Co! Just lots of fresh organic island goodies and oh, the cocos! Yep! It’s good to be back home on Kauai!
So much to do!
There’s so much to do on Kauai! All the water activities from surfing to paragliding to kayaking on the ocean or rivers. Hiking through the jungle to tropical waterfalls, horseback riding through the amazing landscape, water tubing through the old plantations, helicopter rides over the fabled Na Pali Coast, Boat trips to see the Na Pali and snorkel with dolphins….. more about Kauai’s amazing activities here.
Sunrise & Sunset
Oh and the Sunrise! and the Sunsets! Watching the sun set on any beach, or over at the “sunset strip” or anywhere really. Going to bed earlier, getting up earlier because that’s the Kauai way.
Are you wondering if I’m slightly over the top here? Or perhaps wishing you could be here too! No worries. I understand. And you can! Be here too I mean. Come visit. Come visit one of the most magical places on Earth! Come see why I’m so happy to be back home on magical Kauai!
